In a neutral condition, pH reading is 7. Anything with the reading below 7 is considered acidic while above 7 is considered alkaline. Ideally, your body should maintain the pH reading of between 7.35 and 7.45. An alkaline body is often healthier as it allows more fluid and oxygen content.   1. Parsley

Now, this wonderful herb is well-recognized for its diuretic effect as well as its alkalinity. Parsley has a pH reading of between 8.5 and 9. When parsley is used to prepare tea, it has a diuretic effect and is good for promoting kidney function. However, too much of it may irritate your kidneys.

  1. Lemons
    The lemon is acidic in taste, but it is classified as an alkaline forming food. Acids that contained in lemons are weak, when the overall nutrients found in the fruit are alkaline. Citric acid in lemons is weak. It is removed by the body through respiration and sweat after supplying energy to the body in metabolism. The lemon is classified as an alkaline producing food because calcium carbonate is elevated when the former is consumed. Calcium carbonate helps neutralize strong acids in the body and eliminate them through urination.

    Not forgetting, minerals are found abundantly in lemons; for example potassium, calcium, magnesium and selenium. These nutrients contribute to the alkaline nature of the fruit.

    Spinach is a highly nutritious vegetable. This dark leafy vegetable is packed with chlorophyll, vitamin A, C, E, K and B-complex vitamins. It is also categorized as a high alkaline forming food as it contains plenty of alkaline minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium and manganese.

    Spinach is a versatile ingredient. It can be used in salads, wraps, juices and smoothies. It tastes as good when steamed, wilted, braised or slow-cooked.
     

  3. Broccoli
    In the past, broccoli has been disliked by many. It was even criticized by George Bush, the former American president. However, research has found this cruciferous vegetable one of the highest alkaline forming vegetables on earth. It is considered the richest in alkaline among the most popular vegetables. Every 100 g of broccoli is enriched with 340 mg of potassium, 100 mg of calcium, 46 mg of phosphorus, 18 mg of magnesium, 12 mg of sodium, 1.5 mg of iron and trace amount of other dietary mineral such as selenium, copper, zinc and manganese. These minerals found in broccoli are responsible for its alkalizing nature.
     

  4. Kale
    Kale is low in sodium and high in potassium which makes it a high alkaline producing food and beneficial to people with digestive disorders. High potassium content helps lower the blood pressure and prevent hypertension. A nutritionist and an author, Esther Blum recognizes kale as a great alkalizing vegetable that help increase the ability of liver in detoxifying toxins in the body.

    Not only that, kale is good for the skin. Rich in vitamin C, it promotes collagen production. With good amount of beta-carotene and vitamin A, it helps reduce acne problems and heal blemishes.
