How to Make Potatoes Dauphinoise?


Serve: 4



1 tablespoon butter
1 lb 12 sliced waxy potatoes
1 crushed garlic clove
1 red onion, sliced
1 cup grated Swiss cheese
1 cups heavy cream
salt and pepper


  • Preheat the oven to 350F.

  • Set up a 4-cup shallow ovenproof dish. Grease the dish with the prepared butter.

  • In the base of the dish, arrange a single layer of the potatoes until it covers the base fully.

  • Divide the garlic and onion into two equal portions and the cheese into three equal portions.

  • Top the potato slices with one portion of the garlic, one portion of the onion and one portion of the cheese. Add in the salt and pepper according to taste.

  • Repeat the layering in the same sequence. Finish with a layer of potatoes topped with grated cheese.

  • Pour the heavy cream over the top of the potatoes. Send the mixture to the preheated oven for 100 minutes. Make sure the potatoes are cooked through and turns brown.

  • Serve from the dish.
