Colcannon Recipe

How to Make Colcannon?


Serve: 8



1 lb shredded green cabbage
10 tablespoons milk
3 cups diced mealy potatoes
2 chopped large leeks
pinch of grated nutmeg
2 melted tablespoons butter
salt and pepper


  • Bring a pan of salted water to a boil. Add in the cabbage and cook for 12 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  • Bring the milk to a boil in a separate pan.

  • Add in the potatoes and leeks.

  • Reduce the heat and simmer for 25 minutes. Make sure they are cooked through.

  • Sprinkle the grated nutmeg over. Mash the potatoes and leek together.

  • Add in the cabbage to the mashed potato and leek mixture. Stir and mix well.

  • Transfer the mixture into a warmed serving dish. Make a hollow in the center of the vegetables with the back of a spoon.

  • Pour the melted butter into the hollow.

  • Serve immediately.
